Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the instructor for the workshop?

Retirement Design Lab is a nationwide program that was created to help those in or nearing retirement to define and design their ideal retirement. Workshop instructors are licensed financial professionals that are committed to helping people in their community gain more clarity about their retirement. With only a few exceptions, each workshop is taught by local professionals.

I'm not married, can I bring a guest?

Sure! Whether it's a significant other or a close friend/family member, attendees who bring a guest find it to be helpful to bounce things off one another. Each registration includes two reserved seats and individual workbooks.

What happens after the workshop?

Personal finance is just that… personal. With this in mind, instructors are encouraged to make an individual consult available to all registrants at the conclusion of the workshop. Attendees benefit from the opportunity to ask more personal questions related to their unique situation. Your instructor will provide more details about this during the in-classroom sessions. Office hours are not meant to be construed as individual investment advice.

These dates don’t work for me… will you be hosting other workshops in the future?

Maybe. There are a number of factors     that go into scheduling these workshops, including instructor and facility availability. If the dates don't work for you, we'd suggest reaching out to to us via our contact page.

Should I bring my spouse?

Absolutely. The workshop makes every effort to get couples on the same page with their retirement plan. A variety of planning concepts are introduced that will help married couples to think critically about their own retirement picture. From Social Security claiming strategies to taxation issues, the workshop will provide insights for married couples to help them design their retirement.

What happens if I can't make one of the in-person classroom sessions?

We understand that things come up that may cause a scheduling conflict. When you register, you will receive direct contact information of the instructor. We would encourage you reach out ahead of time to discuss what options may be available. Our goal is to provide you with the "complete" experience. Your instructor will work with you to facilitate this.

Am I obligated to meet with and/or do business with the instructor?

No. However, most attendees choose to meet individually with the instructor to review their personal situation and/or address any questions they may have after the in-person classroom session(s) have concluded. At the conclusion of that meeting, you may choose to explore an ongoing relationship with the instructor via their independently owned financial planning firm. That is a personal decision and the classroom education should not be construed to be individual investment advice.

I'm a financial professional, how do I get involved?

We're always looking for financial     professionals who share our enthusiasm for consumer education. If you're interested in getting involved with the Retirement Design Lab educational series, drop us a note on our contact page and tell us more about yourself.
